After carefully reviewing the guidelines of the Governor of California’s executive order in regards to the Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, and in the best interest of our guests and members, we have decided to postpone our March 16th Open House to a later date.
Career Builders Toastmasters takes the education and the health of its members seriously. Our officers have met and finalized a plan to hold online meetings until the situation changes. Schedules will be distributed via email and online and we will host a full video conference for our regular Monday meetings via WebEx. Details about our online meetings are here: http://www.careerbuilderstoastmasters.org/online-meeting-details.html We are continuing to monitor the guidance of federal and state officials and health agencies about the situation and act accordingly.

Toastmasters Leadership Institute is truly a highlight and an amazing kick-off for the year. It is filled with opportunities for networking, training and very exciting educational sessions. Not to mention there are refreshments provided throughout the day and a chance to choose which sessions you would like to attend. At the start of the day, The Career Builders Club was recognized at the TLI conference. Our President Jana received the award and we have a new sash for having “100% Club Officers trained for the 2019 – 2020 term - District 5 “Be Brilliant” The TLI training is a wonderful time for members from different clubs to meet, get to know each other and shares ideas. Some of the big highlights from the day are getting to listen to and be inspired by the Toastmasters Accredited speakers. And this year was no exception. Paul Artale was the Keynote Speaker – He provided an incredible start to the day with his message entitled Hit Hard: 3 Must-Have Mindsets to Breakthrough Challenges. Paul provided insight and humor as he described his journey in achieving his dream of playing college football for the University of Toronto. His message encouraged that; leveraging our strengths and identifying opportunities are just two of the amazing mindsets for achieving the Goals that you have set for yourself. Chris Nielson is a fellow Toastmaster and Improv Guru. A definite standout session that was not to be missed. His mission is to send positive ripples into the world with fun, actionable, transformations ideas, strategies, and skills. It was amazing to see how learning some of the improv games and techniques can assist in day to day life as well as toastmasters. Our club loves to incorporate improve whenever possible and we usually incorporate it at a few events during the year. These are just a few of the highlights, be sure to join us at the next Toastmasters Leadership Institute!
Written by Megan Kettl Behind every incredible Toastmasters club is a dedicated team of Club Officers. A Club officer serves a very important role within Toastmasters International. They provide leadership, support, and foster a positive and encouraging environment for members and guests. On January 6th 2020 Career Builders commenced with a new board induction for the first term of 2020. A highlight of the evening was having Area Director Landon at the meeting to swear in the Club Officers. The current members and guests participated in viewing the ceremony as officers took their oaths and passed the gavel. Notably, the club presented well deserved accolades to Jennifer Gaughran. Serving two terms as Club President in 2019, she served as an inspiration to everyone and exemplified dedication to the club. The Career Builders club presented her with an award. She will be serving in the 2020 term as VP of Education and passing the torch to the clubs new President Jana. With the closing ceremony the Career Builders club welcomed four new officers and four returning officers with open arms. The club also received a high honor of Presidents Distinguished for an amazing start 2020.
We had a fantastic end of year party on December 16 with a potluck and improv! One of our former members, Eugene came back to lead us through a fun improv workshop. It was a great way to let loose and celebrate the end of another great year for Career Builders Toastmasters! Everyone had lots of fun! We also finished gathering our canned food for the St. Paul's food drive. Thank you St. Paul's for another great year letting us use the meeting space!
Fall Festivites by Megan Kettl The Career Builders Club celebrated in true Fall festivity with an Open House on November 18th. The warmth and cheer of refreshments, beside a table filled with hors d'oeuvres and desserts, welcomed new guests and members. The theme that carried the evening was “Movember” which truly raised awareness and touched the hearts and minds of everyone in attendance. Our very own President and Toastmaster dawned Mustaches in tribute to the theme and Month. There was laughter and applause as our welcomed guests and members participated in Table Topics. We had two incredible speeches for the evening. Our first speaker, Peter, carried us through his journey from the ice breaker, to stepping in as club secretary, and the lessons of Creativity, Consistency and Commitment that arose through his Pathway speeches. Next, Landon took us through two valuable lessons learned in his speech. The meaning of true leadership and delegation he experienced while successfully organizing the District 14 Area Speech Competition. Both speeches were incredible examples of the lessons and growth that Toastmasters provides. And the final applause was for Peter who completed his 15th speech and received his certificate for completing his Pathway of Motivational Strategies. After the close of the meeting, guests and members mingled. The Fall Open House was a true celebration.
Hope you can join us at our next open house, or drop in any time for a regular meeting on Monday 6-7:30 pm |
