What better way to celebrate our Career Builders club successes this year than ON THE RED CARPET? Our members triumphed through this second year of covid by helping each other reach their personal and professional goals and practicing their speaking and leadership skills. Rock on, Career Builders Toastmasters! Here are some highlights from our Red Carpet Awards ceremony celebrating our members achievements and support for each other in the 2021-2022 Toastmasters year. We got together for a fabulous in-person meeting featuring an outstanding Icebreaker by new member Craig Smith, then gathered for the first time in nearly three years afterwards at a local restaurant to continue the celebration. We're looking forward to another great year of hearing each other speak in 2022-2023! Club Educational Achievements and AccomplishmentsSpeaking Champion Awards Every year Toastmasters International holds a worldwide speaking competition to showcase the best speakers amongst all of the Toastmaster clubs. This past Toastmasters year, our two speech contestants competed at the District Level for District 5! This was the first time we’ve had a speaker from our club compete at this level for many, many years and we are so proud of them!
Exceptional Educational Effort: We recognized all of our members who earned educational awards this year and contributed to our club reaching President’s Distinguished for the eleventh year in a row. Congratulations to: Alan Berlin, Alberto Bautista, Asako Sasaki-Perez, Jana Nakamura, Jennifer Gaughran, Landon Alchikh, Matthew Baker, Mollie Morris, Peter Shin, Salina Bambic and Shanti Turner Club Officer Awards for the last term: These officers have worked in their roles supporting the club and its members during the January-June 2022 officer term. Thank you to: Alan Berlin, Alberto Bautista, Jennifer Gaughran, Matthew Baker, Mollie Morris, Anne Shaw Hanson Above and Beyond Effort Awards Sometimes it’s hard to come to Toastmasters on a Monday night even when everything is going well. These two members are receiving a special award tonight for continuing to attend meetings and support the club as officers and during club meetings despite experiencing serious medical challenges this year. They are very inspiring to us all and we really, really appreciate their contributions. A very special Thank You! to: Alan Berlin and Matt Baker Past President Recognition & Service Award This award is to recognize the past presidency of Alberto Bautista and all of the hard work he did supporting the club in 2021. Alberto is always ready to help the club and support his fellow members. If there is a speech or functionary cancellation, he always volunteers to fill a slot. He volunteers to to help other clubs, and to help and mentor new members. He has built exceptional leadership skills by being there for the people around him and providing genuine care for us all. Recently all of this hard work has paid off with his promotion to Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Sempra Energy AND he has been accepted as a new board member of The San Diego LGBT Community Center. Congratulations Alberto, and thank you for being such an inspriation to us! Southern Division Support AwardsSouthern Division Director Award This award goes to club member Jennifer Gaughran, who went above and beyond in her club duties to support District 5 this year as Southern Division Director. She and her team of Area Directors worked hard to support the clubs in Southern Division, which performed better than any other Division in District 5 during the 2021-2022 Toastmasters year. Supporting Southern Division Speech Contests The following members went above and beyond typical club duties by volunteering to support club speech contests at the Area or Division Level this past year. With their participation as contest functionaries, Southern Division able to hold successful contests that showcased the efforts of contestants from all over San Diego County. A HUGE thank you goes to: Alberto Bautista, Jennifer Gaughran, Megan Kettl and Miguel Murillo Supporting Southern Division club charter These members took extra time out of their busy week to help run a demo meeting for a new club charter. Thank you both for helping kick off a new Online club that will help people all over the country can public speaking and leadership confidence. Thank you to: Anne Shaw Hanson, Jennifer Gaughran, Megan Kettl Supporting Southern Division club promotional effort This special award that goes to a member that helped Southern Division with a special club promotional effort. He helped set up and man a Toastmasters booth at Balboa Park on a Saturday morning so we could provide information to anyone who was interested about the Toastmasters program. Thank you from the Sothern Division team to: Landon Alchikh Special "Thank You! Award This special award goes to Nicole Roberts, for helping THREE Southern Division Clubs (Liberty, Uptown Professionals, and Career Builders) settle into the new space at St. Paul's Conference center so we could meet in person after the interruption caused by the pandemic. Not only this, but Nicole continued searching four our clubs lost banner containing more than 15 years worth or recognition ribbons until she found it. Thank you for your care and tenacity, Nicole! New Members & Guests RecognitionNew and Returning Members Recognition We celebrated all new members who joined within the last Toastmaster year, starting on July 1 2021, or came back to us as returning members. We wanted to thank the partners, family, or friends of our members who visit as guests to watch our speeches and support us as we grow. Our guests help us remember to explain our roles better and to always put in the extra effort to make our speaking practice as best as it can be.
